A welterweight tilt has been added to the upcoming San Diego show, UFC Fight Night 70 (formerly UFC Fight Night 72), as Alan Jouban is set to face Matt Dwyer.

UFC officials announced the matchup on Wednesday.

Jouban (11-3) made his promotional debut last August and picked up a stoppage over Seth Baczynski in a ‘Fight of the Night’ affair.  In his next Octagon appearance, however, he dropped a very close decision to Warlley Alves.  He rebounded with a stunning knockout win over Richard Walsh this past February at UFC 184.

Dwyer (8-2) is a Canadian prospect who has never gone the distance in his professional career, only twice as an amateur.  He was signed to the UFC with a 7-1 record with all fights coming under British Columbia’s Battlefield Fight League regional banner, where he gained the welterweight strap.  Although, in his promotional debut in October, he was stopped by top prospect Albert Tumenov in the very first round.  He got back to winning ways, however, in a big way.  He went into opponent William Macario’s backyard earlier this year in Brazil as a huge underdog and stopped him with a superman punch, earning an extra $50,000 ‘Performance of the Night’ bonus.

The card placement for the bout is unknown at this time.

UFC Fight Night 70 takes place live from the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, CA on July 15.  Headlining the card is a heavyweight bout between Frank Mir and Todd Duffee.
