And still the UFC Bantamweight champion… T.J. Dillashaw

In January, T.J. Dillashaw lost his UFC bantamweight championship to Dominick Cruz in what was a contentious split decision. While a lot of sports bettors made money taking Cruz in the sportsbetting MMA odds, Dillashaw isn’t happy that Cruz and the UFC haven’t given him a rematch yet.

In a recent interview, the former champion said while the UFC hasn’t officially named Cruz’s next opponents, he is almost certain he will be passed over for someone else, which is something he isn’t happy about.

Dillashaw tried to make his case by explaining that when a No. 1 ranked fighter beats the No. 2 ranked fighter, the only thing left to do is to give the fighter a title shot. Dillashaw, who believes he won the fight against Cruz, did what the UFC asked of him and fought the No. 2 guy Raphael Assunscao, whom he defeated.

Despite his win over the 2nd ranked fighter in the division and being the top ranked challenger, Dillashaw hasn’t been given a chance to win his belt back.

After he lost the belt to Cruz, Dillashaw thought he would be given an immediate rematch especially since it was a very close fight. However, the UFC decided to pass on a third fight between Cruz and Dillashaw, giving Dillashaw’s former mentor Urijah Faber a fight against Cruz instead.

Dillashaw had to settle for Assunscao, who was the last person to defeat him before Cruz. Things got a lot more interesting last weekend at UFC 202 after Dillashaw’s former training partner Cody Garbrandt defeated Takeya Mizugaki with a scintillating knockout.

After the fight, Garbrandt called out Cruz for his belt, adding his name to the list of fighter that are hoping to get a title shot against Cruz.

As expected, Dillashaw wasn’t happy about possibly being left out of the mix for a title shot he believes he should have been given by now. During his interview, Dillashaw said Garbrandt calling out Cruz is the same thing as him trying to cut the line.

Dillashaw said Garbrandt knows that Dillashaw would beat him in a fight, and is trying to avoid facing tough opponents. After saying that Garbrandt was just trying to cut in front of other fighters that are waiting to get a shot at Cruz, he added that Garbrandt was turning the UFC into the WWE by creating drama that the fans are eating up.

Dillashaw it won’t make any sense if the No. 8 fighter, who just defeated the No. 11 ranked fighter, gets a title shot before others that have been waiting longer than him.

Despite his frustration about not getting a rematch with Cruz, Dillashaw said he doesn’t think the UFC will give Garbrandt a title shot before him because he doesn’t see any way that they can deny him the fight. If they do, Dillashaw said it would be a robbery and MMA won’t be a real sport anymore.

By giving someone else the title shot before him, Dillashaw said it would mean that the UFC values the entertainment aspect of the fight game more than the actual fights, which is something he cannot support.

If Dillashaw was running things, he said he would have the best fighters fight each other, which is the way sports is meant to be.
