Following his successful Bellator debutConor McGregor teammate Dillon Danis (1-0) is in high demand. Countless fans and fighters in and around the welterweight class took to social media to roast and ridicule the debuting jiu-jitsu ace.

Danis met criticism for his triumphant and boastful attitude after barely surviving the standup attack of the now 2-5 Kyle Walker. Unsuccessful in his attempts to score takedowns, Danis was met with several hard right hands from the unheralded Walker.

In what was a strategic blunder, Walker accepted the top position after Danis pulled guard off of a failed shot. This was the beginning of the end, as Danis chained submissions to eventually finish by toe hold.

Askren Responds

In his backstage interview, Danis dropped the name of former Bellator and current ONE FC champion, Ben Askren. While the idea of a 1-0 fighter against an undefeated champion like Askren is almost too ridiculous to entertain, Askren couldn’t resist taking a shot.

Dillon Danis vs. Jake Smith?

The first word of a potential next opponent for Danis came today from the “PortlandMMA” twitter account. PortlandMMA has connections to many fighters in the northwestern region of the United States and may well be in the know.

A teammate of Chael Sonnen, Oregon’s Jake Smith (7-2) brings a dangerous boxing game and competent wrestling to the cage.

In his last bout, Smith scored a huge knockout upset over a fantastic prospect in Steve “Thunderbeast” Kozola.

Given the difficulty Danis had in his bout with Kyle Walker, Smith would be a huge step up in competition. Bellator has been known to slowly build up their inexperienced, marketable prospects. It would come as quite a surprise if Bellator made this dangerous matchup for Danis.
