It’s safe to say that James Bochnovic (8-3) is pumped for his Shamrock FC 309 middleweight main event bout with Adam Cella (9-8).

Bochnovic returns to action for the first time since being released from the UFC earlier in the year. He had an eight-fight winning streak snapped in the promotion, and now looks to start a new one against Cella.

“There’s going to be fireworks,” Bochnovic told MMASucka of the match-up. “It’ll be what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object. It’s going to get fucking real.”

Like Bochnovic, Cella is also a UFC and Bellator veteran. Cella enters the contest riding a three-fight winning streak.

“He’s tough. Not the toughest dude I’ve ever fought but he’s up there,” Bochnovic said. “He’s going to come out throwing. I’ve never really thought about [where my opponents rank]. It’s never really ‘This dude’s tough,’ or ‘This one’s not.’ I’m ready to step up on top of him and keep climbing.”

Bochnovic said he signed a one-fight deal with Shamrock FC after a pair of UFC fights didn’t go his way. He said he was in a spot where he needed some fights and to put wins together. He messaged a bunch of promotions, and Shamrock FC was excited to bring him on-board and pit him against one of their top middleweights.

Bochnovic was happy that he had the opportunity to be able to actually prepare for a fight again. He had a full camp for Cella, whereas in the UFC, he fought Trevin Giles and Markus Perez on very short notice.

“There’s only one big shiny belt I’ve got my eye on.”

The bout will be a three-round main event, though it’s not for the Shamrock FC middleweight belt. That’s fine with Bochnovic, who’s eyeing a return to the UFC.

“I’m interested in winning and I’m interested in fighting,” he said. “If there’s a big shiny belt, sweet. There’s only one big shiny belt I’ve got my eye on. Unfortunately, it’s not the Shamrock belt, but the Shamrock belt would be pretty sweet.”

Bochnovic has options if he beats Cella, as he only signed on for the one fight with Shamrock FC. He said he’s not thinking about what’s next until after the fight, as Cella is his sole focus. Bochnovic predicted he’ll score an emphatic finish on Cella.

“Maybe I choke him, maybe I break his arm, maybe I knock him out. He’s going to get ended.”

Shamrock FC 309 goes down on Friday, September 7 from the River City Casino in St. Louis. FloCombat will be airing the event.
