CES adds an exciting flyweight matchup to its upcoming November card, CES 53. Promotion officials announced yesterday the return of Richie Santiago as he takes on Billy Giovanella at the upcoming event. The announcement becomes the first official bout slated for the event.

Richie Santiago Returns

Richie Santiago returns to the CES cage after suffering his first career loss. He went undefeated in six pro bouts before falling to Matt Almy at CES 49.

While the loss was the first on his professional record, it was not the first of his mixed martial arts career. As an amateur, Santiago went winless in his first three fights. Following this stretch, the BST fighter went 4-1 on his way to becoming Cage Titans amateur flyweight champion. To cement his status in the amateur ranks, he defended his title before turning pro.

Since the leap, Santiago continued his success. In his 7 pro bouts, each of his wins came by way of stoppage, 5 by submission and one by TKO.

Billy Giovanella

His opponent Billy Giovanella comes into CES 53 with a good amount of experience. Giovanella competed 17 times as pro with a record of 9-8. He is a three-fight Bellator veteran (1-2, Bellator MMA). The Connor’s MMA fighter is also a four-fight veteran of CES. His most recent competition pit him against Miguel Restrepo at CES NY 1.

Unfortunately for Giovanella, CES NY 1 resulted in a fourth consecutive loss. In his previous 7, his record sits at 1-6.

CES 53 brings back the promotion to its New England hub. The event takes place from the Twin River Casino on November 2nd. As of now, the only official bout is Santiago vs. Giovanella. More announcements wait on the horizon. Fabio Cherant is set for the upcoming November event, promotion officials announced todayKris Moutinho and Hilarie Rose expressed a desire to fight at CES 53. Both fighters were victorious at CES 51 in August.
