Ryan Shough

Ryan Shough is a 26 year old heavyweight fighter, fighting out of the state of Ohio. He holds a 6-1 amateur record and a 0-1 pro record. After a six month layoff, The Superman is back to get his winning streak off and running. In his last fight against Cam Graham, a late groin strike would see the beginning of the end for the fight. MMAsucka spoke with Shough about the crowd presence during that fight with Graham. He said, “I fed off that atmosphere to be honest, even though they were against me. Just having a crowd that loud and excited for a fight was incredible.” Shough can expect a similar type of crowd in his next fight, being in his home state of Ohio.

His Opponent

Jake Heavlin is a heavyweight fighter out of Missouri. Heavlin was supposed to make his pro debut last month in August, but his opponent pulled from the fight last minute. He was then given a replacement who also backed out of the fight last minute. That means that this will be his pro debut. After a 8-0 amateur he will look to keep the ball rolling against Shough.

Fighters Background/Style

Both of these guys have deep grappling backgrounds. Heavlin trains at Delarosa Submission Wrestling Academy, while Shough has an extensive high school background in football and wrestling. Football has always been a good base for wrestlers in MMA. It looks that this fight will be a clash of high level heavyweight wrestling. Although in the history of MMA when both men are good at one technique, it’s likely that they try to out preform one another in their respective “weakness”. That being said, we could possibly see a standup war between The Superman and The Teddy Bear on October 4th.

Ohio Combat League

OCL is a local MMA promotion based out of Columbus, Ohio. The promotion will be putting on their 3rd show labeled OCL # 3 on October 4th. Their first show aired earlier this year on May 10th. Both of these fighters will be making their promotional debut on this card. Taking place at Express Live in Columbus, Ohio, the event will be broadcasted exclusively on Flo Combat.

My name is Michael Lynch. I’m originally from Long Island, NY, but I reside in Columbia, Sc. I’ve been covering MMA for almost two years now. I’ve covered events such as Island fights and the PFL. I also have a YouTube channel where I do fight companions and UFC fight previews. I have recently started to train in mma and would like to have my first fight in 2020. I believe that as a journalist I need to experience what these fighters go threw, in order to understand their POV.
