Our final event of this five-part MMASucka staff picks weekend is here. The historic ONE Championship: Century will see “Part One” taking place Saturday, October 12th from the Ryogoku Kokugikan in Tokyo, Japan. This first selection of fights will begin at 8:00pm ET (5:00pm PT) live on TNT in the United States; the card early Sunday via Japan time. “Part Two” picks will be in a separate article posted soon after this here on MMASucka.

Feel free to read this article to get a better understanding of the card and how this event will function. Also, check out our staff picks from the other three cards this weekend: RIZIN 19, Bellator 230, and UFC Fight Night 161.

The Fights

In the main event slot, Angela Lee will look to defend her atomweight belt against challenger Xiong Jing Nan. The two first met in March of this year, Lee moving up in weight attempting to take away Jing Nan’s strawweight title. A back-and-forth contest came to an end in round five with Jing Nan defending her strap by technical knockout. Lee faced the second loss of her career in July to Michelle Nicolini, now looking to avoid a three-fight skid while avenging her prior defeat and defending her 115-pound title. A victory for Jing Nan would make her a two-divisional champion whilst extending her win streak to ten straight.

The ONE World Grand Prix Championship Finals make up two fantastic bouts on the main card. All-time great Demetrious Johnson will battle Filipino star Danny Kingad in the co-main event slot as part of the flyweight finals. Johnson will look for his third straight victory since signing with ONE, while Kingad hopes to earn another shot at the divisional championship. The welterweight finals at 185 pounds was intended to see veteran Eddie Alvarez compete until an injury forced him out of the Grand Prix. Current divisional king Christian Lee is now in on short-notice for Alvarez set to battle the well-rounded and dangerous finisher of Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev.

Staff Picks

Throughout the year, staff picks will be composed of four different MMA promotions: UFCBellatorONE, and RIZIN. Main cards will make up both UFC and Bellator picks, while the biggest fights to make up ONE and RIZIN events will be used. The WINNER of staff picks will have a choice between receiving a championship belt from ProAmBelts or a championship chain from Championship Chains. The 2018 winner was awarded to Michael DeSantis, compiling a record of 202-101.
