Izu Ugonoh: Heavyweight Prospect

This will actually be Izu Ugonoh’s third go at a combat sport.  having previously achieved success on the Polish kickboxing circuit. After transitioning to boxing Ugonoh seemed like a promising heavyweight prospect.

After winning the IBF Mediterranian heavyweight title Ugonoh was set to fight former world heavyweight title challenger Dominic Breazeale. However, “Trouble” proved to be too much for Ugonoh. Ugonoh started strong, using an effective stiff jab to make his way inside and finding Breazeale’s body with hooks and straights alike. But in the third round, Breazeale came out swinging, drawing Ugonoh into exchanges and dropping him. Ugonoh was seriously hurt but fought back, hurting Breazeale in turn. Every time one gained an advantage the other would fight their way back in. That third round was awarded Round of the Year by Ring magazine.

In the fourth Ugonoh initially seemed to be on the defensive but he stunned Breazeale with a body shot and dropped him with a fierce series of hooks. But now Ugonoh was too exhausted to capitalize. Breazeale would take the offensive once more in the fifth, dropping Ugonoh with some hard rights before a final combination that sent Ugonoh down, crashing through the ropes.

Ugonoh’s defence in exchanges may leave something to be desired. However, his extremely effective bodywork, terrifying power, and good shot selection are sure to make him a serious threat to not only the KSW heavyweight roster but the global MMA heavyweight scene.
