The biggest star in boxing, Canelo Alvarez returns to the ring tonight to challenge Callum Smith for the 168lb WBA and Ring Magazine championships. The event can be watched on DAZN starting at 8pm ET/5pm PT. The fight will take place stateside, as it is being held at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Both Canelo Alvarez and Callum Smith will be fighting for the first time since November of last year. Alvarez is coming off of a knockout victory over Sergey Kovalev as Smith comes off a controversial decision victory over John Ryder.

As a result of his win over Kovalev, Alvarez drops back down to 168lbs and that appears to be the weight class he’s going to conquer in 2021. Callum Smith is considered one of the best fighters at super middleweight, however he is a large underdog against Alvarez, sitting at nearly +500 on some websites. Smith will have to utilize his massive height and reach advantage to pull off the upset.
After Friday night, the trilogy with Gennady Golovkin has reappeared as a possible 2021 matchup. Will the Brit spoil Canelo’s plans? Or will Canelo add another world title in what is shaping up to be a hall of fame career.
