What to expect from Bellator in 2021
Bellator MMA has yet to release details on any events for the 2021 year. Upon entering their website, fans are met with a message that “matchups [are] coming soon”. However, as January tilts closer to February, fans are left wondering when Bellator will kick off its 2021 operations.
The Pinnacle of the Bellator Featherweight World Grand Prix
The Featherweight World Grand Prix, although delayed, has had its highlights. In the first half of the bracket, AJ McKee has run through strong competition in that of Darrion Caldwell, Derek Campos, and Georgi Karakhanyan. In the second half of the bracket, Patricio Freire and Emmanuel Sanchez will square off in the semi-finals, to cement the final fight matchup.
A Bellator Heavyweight Title Fight
Ryan Bader last fought in August 2020 in the light heavyweight division, losing his title to Vadim Nemkov. With rumors circulating about a potential rematch, Bader’s heavyweight title may have to be vacated. Front runners, Tim Johnson and Valentin Moldavksy, are likely to square off for the heavyweight strap if this ends up being the case.
A Bellator Bantamweight Title Defense
Juan Archuleta defeated Patchy Mix for the vacant Bellator bantamweight world championship in September 2020. As we are more than four months separated from the event, a 135-lb. title defense is imminent. A number of top contenders could challenge for the belt, including James Gallagher, Magomed Magomedov, and Sergio Pettis. Rumors that former Shooto and Bellator bantamweight champion and current RIZIN bantamweight champ, Kyoji Horiguchi, could return to Bellator to challenge for the title.

With so many possibilities for the future, Bellator fans are on the edge of their seats, waiting for Scott Coker and company to break the news about the next big event.
