With the exit of a few of KSW’s key fighters to the UFC, the organization has begun to re-tool with young, upcoming talent. One of those set to take over for the future is Polish submission fighter, Robert Ruchala. Thus far in KSW, the featherweight star has won both of his bouts in the KSW by submission. With Mateusz Gamrot’s departure to the UFC and Marian Ziolkowski just recently winning the vacant crown, could Robert Ruchala be set up to become the KSW’s future star?

Early Career and Finding MMA

Like many fighters, Ruchala was introduced to combat sports as a way of self-defense. He told MMA Sucka, “I wanted to learn to defend and, additionally, try a new sport. I used to skateboard or play football. When I watched fights on TV, I was very excited to go to martial arts training. I remember that I liked my first training so much that it was inevitable that I would not go again.”

He continued, “So I started training quite a lot, then I was driving after the competition more and more. Then came the moment when there was an opportunity to fight at the TFL professional gala on an amateur basis. I won the fight and then I knew that this is what I want to do in my life.”

After 15 amateur fights, Ruchala had acquired the experience needed to enter the professional scene. His debut came in November 2019 where he competed at Octagon No Mercy 8 and was victorious by unanimous decision. Winning his next two bouts under the Wieczor Walk banner, Ruchala made his debut in KSW with a professional record of 3-0. With only three pro bouts under his belt, Ruchala entered the KSW cage at KSW 56 in November 2020 and walked out with the first-round submission. He followed that up with his most recent outing at KSW 58 in January 2021. Ruchala took out the then-undefeated Daniel Bazant with an armbar in the third round.

The Bright Future of Robert Ruchala

So what is next for the potential future champion? “Every day I try to be better and better and then show what I have learned in combat training. As for the next fight, it won’t be for the championship. I have to win a few more fights before I get such a chance,” stated Ruchala.

Currently, Ruchala does not have an opponent lined up. Arguably, the KSW’s featherweight division is its most stacked with plenty of potential great matchups for the upcoming star. “I don’t have a competitor with whom I would like to fight, and  I don’t care who I get. I will definitely prepare for him 100% and I will go at him as the world champion. I am a humble player and always respect my opponent.”
