As customary for KSW, their next event, KSW 61, was announced during KSW 60, along with the main event. Set for Saturday, June 05, 2021, inside the Shakespeare Theatre in Gdansk, Poland, KSW 61 will take place and air on KSWTV or the KSW app. The main event will feature longtime KSW staples of the heavyweight division as the World’s Strongest Man Mariusz Pudzianowski battles KSW 1 veteran, Lukasz Jurkowski.

Mariusz Pudzianowski

Winner of five World’s Strongest Man titles, the most in the sport’s history, Mariusz Pudzianowski (14-7) made his MMA debut and KSW debut at the same event, KSW 12 in December 2009. In the first couple of years in his career, Pudzianowski knocked out both “Butterbean” Eric Esch and Bob Sapp. After winning three bouts in a row by unanimous decision, Pudzianowski earned knockout of the night honors after defeating Rolles Gracie in just 27 seconds at KSW 31 in May 2015. Currently, Pudzianowski is on a two-fight winning streak with both wins coming by knockout. This will mark a decently quick turnaround for Pudz, who last competed at KSW 59 in march. With nine of his career 14 wins coming by the finish, chances are the judges will not be needed for this one.

Lukasz Jurkowski

The first-ever KSW tournament winner, Lukasz Jurkowski (17-11) is the most-tenured fighter on the KSW roster. Jurkowski won three bouts at KSW 1 to take home the organization’s first honors. In KSW 2, Jurkowski was the runner-up but scored a nine-second head-kick knockout on the card. One of Jurkowski’s best wins to date came against Bellator and KSW veteran, Attila Vegh at KSW 11 in May 2009. In the second-largest attended MMA show of all time, KSW 39, Jurkowski defeated the dangerous Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou in May 2017. 57,766 fans packed the Stadion PGE Narodowy in Warsaw, Poland for the card containing five championship bouts. Most recently, Jurkowski is coming off of a first-round TKO injury stoppage victory over Stjepan Bekavac at KSW 48 in April 2019.

It is typical for KSW to have a title bout along with their headlining bout. It would be nice to see middleweight champion Mamed Khalidov back in the cage or newly crowned featherweight champion Daniel Torres in battle. Splitting his two showdowns with Scott Askham, maybe KSW will have a rubber match in store for us with Khalidov and Askham competing for the title and ultimately bragging rights in their epic trilogy. Whatever the rest of the card looks like, KSW 61 is set to be a banger.
