Conor McGregor

It would be impossible to talk about the best trash talkers in MMA without mentioning Conor McGregor’s name. McGregor is by far the biggest superstar in UFC history all because he is damn good at promoting his fights. He is a master at getting under his opponent’s skin. His most notable trash talk is when he said “who the fuck is that guy” to Jeremy Stephens in a press conference leading up to UFC 205. McGregor’s trash talk was most effective in his fight with Jose Aldo. Aldo was visibly upset leading up to the fight and more than likely was the reason he overextended and was knocked out in the first round.

Kevin Holland

Kevin Holland has a different kind of trash talk. He doesn’t say much leading up to the fight but once those cage doors shut you can’t shut him up. So much so that Dana White famously nicknamed him “big mouth” after Holland’s fight on the contender series. Win lose or draw Holland will be talking to you in the cage. His trash talk has got him into the UFC on short notice and has kept him there going on a five-fight win streak in 2020.

Nick and Nate Diaz

Nick and Nate Diaz are both stone face killers when they are in that octagon. Similar to Holland, they don’t talk much leading up to fights but they bring their intensity to the cage. While Holland’s trash talk seems more playful at times, the Diaz brothers are serious as can be when they are talking. Nick Diaz’s trash talk became most noticeable in his first fight with Robbie Lawler. Before the fight even started, Diaz was yelling “Stockton mother fucker, Stockton” across the cage to Lawler.

Dominick Cruz

Dominick Cruz is a very special kind of trash talker. Mainly because he is extremely intelligent and thinks of very witty things to say to his opponent leading up to his fights.  This was most evident leading into his fight against Cody Garbrandt. The two fighters had multiple exchanges leading into the fight where Cruz seemed to be getting the upper hand in the mental warfare. Cruz has a job as a commentator for the UFC but he has fought in March 2021 and has said that he plans to continue.

Jon Jones

Jon Jones is a vicious trash talker. Most of his trash talk is on social media but he did show out in the build-up for his fight with Daniel Cormier. Jones and Cormier have been rivals since they first fought in 2015. Jones even asked Cormier “hey pussy are you still there” in an interview leading into their second fight. He is also famous for the line “I beat you after a weekend of cocaine.” Referring to Cormier calling him a coke addict leading up to their second fight. Jones has made a lot of trouble for himself in his career but always finds a way to make light of the situations.

I also have a YouTube channel where I do fight companions and UFC fight previews. I have recently started to train in mma and would like to have my first fight in 2020. I believe that as a journalist I need to experience what these fighters go threw, in order to understand their POV.
