Making three separate posts via Instagram, Wineland thanked fans, coaches, and friends for their role in his career. The 37-year-old wrote,

” I didn’t get an opportunity to leave my gloves in the cage but as Jim Morrison once sang “this is the end” The road I’ve traveled over the past almost 20 years has seen many highs and lows, it’s been a fun ride but this train has reached its final destination!…”.

Wineland made his professional debut in 2003 and would compile a professional record of 10-4-1 while on the regional scene. The native of Chesterton, Indiana, would fight for the WEC for the first time in 2006 in a matchup against Antonio Banuelos for the promotion’s inaugural bantamweight title. Wineland would close out the show in less than a round with a spectacular knockout that would earn him the title. While competing in the UFC, Wineland would compile a record of 6-10, losing his last three fights to Sean O’Malley, John Casteñeda, and Cody Stamann via knockout. Having just signed a new 4-fight contract one month ago, Wineland has opted to retire.

Wineland is a full-time firefighter and founder and CEO of the Mustache Mafia, a lifestyle brand.
