The UFC held their standard media conference call for an event today for UFC 137 which will take place on August 29 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scheduled to take part were UFC Director of Communications Dave Sholler, Main Event fighters Nick Diaz and BJ Penn. Also on the line were co-main eventers Cheick Kongo and Matt Mitrione. Below are the highlights.
The last time that the UFC put on a free televised title fight was at UFC 75 in London England. It was the PrideFC and UFC light heavyweight unification fight of Dan Henderson versus Quinton "Rampage" Jackson. The reason why it was free was that the UFC was nice enough to keep us from paying $60.00 to watch a prerecorded fight during Saturday night prime time due to the time difference. Since then, it only made good business sense for the UFC to have all title fights as Pay Per View. The entrance of the Bantam Weights into the UFC it has given us the opportunity to watch another free televised title fight as they haven't been around that long, so it will give the casual fans a chance to get to know fighters like Dominic Cruz and Demetrious Johnson. For the hardcore fans, it was a nice freebie that we can watch at the comfort of our own homes and save some money, especially from the frantic pace of the fall MMA event line up.
June 26th of this year will be a day that Charlie Brenneman will never forget. He was supposed to fight TJ Grant on the UFC on Versus 4 card in Pittsburgh and Grant had to bow out due to injury. Brenneman was without an opponent, but stayed on weight just in case a fighter pulled out. Then, the Nate Marquardt situation happened and Brenneman was back in the ballgame. The day before the card, the UFC offered Brenneman the fight with Rick Story and Brenneman jumped on it. He went out and put on a great performance as he defeated Rick Story via unanimous decision and his life changed after that. With more people recognizing him, Brenneman(14-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) kicked his training into high gear as he faces Anthony Johnson(9-3 MMA, 6-3 UFC) tomorrow night at UFC Live On Versus 6.
The fights to get in the house are done, and now we are left with the top 16 fighters to be broken up into teams. Michael Bisping wins the coin toss and ops to pick the first fighter, leaving Mayhem with the first fight pick.
Here we go with the aftermath for UFC 135 with fight reactions, and future match-ups for the winners and losers. I hope Joe Silva gets a hold of this site one day and takes some of my advice on what should happen next. He has the best job.
If the Brazilians are known for their Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Americans their Free-style and Greco-roman wrestling, many North fans would suggest that the grappling style representing Japan is Judo. This is not surprising with fighters such as Yushin Okami and Yoshihiro Akiyama being prominent judo practitioners and main event fighters in the UFC.

Last night Battlefield Fight League came back to Vancouver to showcase their amateur talent at the historic Vogue Theater on Vancouver’s Granville strip. The promotion brought some interesting fights, new budding talents, and even a little controversy to make some interesting story lines for future events. Here are my best and worse of the evening.
