Chad Mendes vs. Manny Gamburyan set to battle at UFC 157

|

A featherweight duel is set to go down at UFC 157, as former number one contender Chad Mendes will meet Manny Gamburyan.

UFC officials announced the match-up on Thursday.

Mendes (13-1) has gone on a two fight winning streak against Cody McKenzie and Yaotzin Meza since losing to the UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo. He hopes to beat Gamburyan to inch that much closer to a featherweight title fight.

Gamburyan (12-7) most recently defeated Michihiro Omigawa at UFC on FOX 4 this past August. Prior to that win, “The Anvil” lost three in a row to Jose Aldo, Tyson Griffin and Diego Nunes.

No word as to where on the UFC 157 fight card the Mendes vs. Gamburyan fight will take place.

UFC 157 will go down on February 23 from The Honda Center in Anaheim, California and is expected to be headlined by Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche for the first ever UFC women’s title. Also on the card is “The California Kid” Urijah Faber who is set to take on Ivan Menjivar and a possible number one contender match-up in the light heavyweight division between Dan Henderson and Lyoto Machida.
