Dana White: Dan Henderson next in line for light heavyweight title shot if victorious at UFC 157

|

It was just over four months ago when the UFC cancelled its first event when Dan Henderson pulled out of his main event clash with Jon Jones at UFC 151.

Henderson lost his position as the number one contender in the light heavyweight division and was placed against former champ Lyoto Machida at UFC 157. UFC President Dana White has stated that Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier could possibly make the drop to light heavyweight and immediately challenge Jones for his title.

However, that changed today when White was asked a question about Henderson vs. Machida at the UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz kick-off press conference.

“I think Dan Henderson, I think he wants the Jon Jones fight. Actually, yeah (he’s ahead of Cormier). He’ll fight before Cormier, so yeah, he would be.” – thanks to MMAmania.com for the quote.

Henderson is on a four fight winning streak and most recently beat Maurício “Shogun” Rua in the fight of the year at UFC 139. That fight was in November of 2011 and unfortunately due to injury Hendo hasn’t fought since.

Cormier’s name got brought up as a possible contender for Jones’ belt when his teammate Cain Velasquez reclaimed the UFC heavyweight championship this past December at UFC 155.
