The Hit List: UFC 159 fighters who are in must win situations

|

UFC 159 will go down this Saturday night from the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The main event is a battle between the TUF 17 coaches as Jon Jones defends his UFC light-heavyweight championship against Chael Sonnen. In the co-main event, Alan Belcher will try to shut up the British trash-talker Michael Bisping.

Of the 12 fights on the UFC 159 card, we could only come up with two fighters that are in must win situations. However with every event there a potential of being let go if you do not win, so below is MMASucka.com’s “The Hit List”.

Nick Catone (9-4)

Fighting who: James Head

Catone is on a two-fight losing skid, picking up losses against Chris Camozzi at UFC on FX 4 and TJ Waldburger at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale. After his loss to Camozzi, Catone made the drop to welterweight. Unfortunately, in such a stacked division a three-fight losing streak and two in a row in that division will more than likely send “The Jersey Devil” packing.

Leonard Garcia (15-10-1)

Fighting who: Cody McKenzie

After falling short in his last four fights, a loss will put Garcia at an unheard of five-fight losing streak. It is very rare these days for a fighter to make it past three losses in a row and still have a job in the UFC. However, Garcia is known for his all-out wars which has kept his job even though he’s lost four in a row. Most recently “Bad Boy” lost a split-decision to Max Holloway at UFC 155. If McKenzie can beat Garcia, he will probably also be giving him a pink slip as well.

There are other fighters who have lost one fight and if they lose at UFC 159 they could possibly be going home. However, I didn’t list them on “The Hit List” because it is highly unlikely.
