Rory MacDonald defeats Jake Ellenberger via unanimous decision

Seattle, WA – Pacific North West’s Rory MacDonald squared off with Jake Ellenberger in the co-main event at UFC on FOX 8 with big implications.

A couple quick jabs landed by MacDonald to judge the distance caught Ellenberger. Both men were tentative to open up at all throughout the first couple minutes. MacDonald landed a couple more jabs later in the round which seemed to frustrate Ellenberger. The round ended with MacDonald showing patience and opening up Ellenberger with his well timed jabs.

Again MacDonald utilizing the jab early in round 2. A stuffed takedown attempt by Ellenberger led to a couple of his best punches on the way out. Much the same as the first round, both men were patient with their combinations which had the crowd booing at the bell.

The pitter patter jab of MacDonald opened up some other combinations which began landing in the third round. He utilized the jab to land a nice front kick which snapped Ellenberger’s head back and an elbow which landed, unfortunately for him neither did much damage. Ellenberger starting throwing at a faster pace midway through the third. Ellenberger landed a takedown with just over one minute left in the fight, but it was too little too late.

Rory MacDonald def. Jake Ellenberger via Unanimous Decision (30-27,29-28,30-27)

Rory MacDonald:

“I obviously look to finish fights, but he’s a good fighter, so what can you do? I think I had him worried with the elbows because he didn’t want to come near me after that. That wasn’t my game plan, but I accomplished what I needed to do. I think I’m a better fighter than him. I definitely want to fight again before the end of the year. I don’t really have an opponent in mind, but we’ll see what doors open.”
