Jake Shields speaks about the scrapped Gilbert Melendez vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov fight

The UFC rushed the news that Gilbert Melendez would be squaring off against Khabib Nurmagomedov in the co-main event at UFC 170 in February.

The organization made the announcement of the match-up at the UFC 168 post-fight press conference.

UFC President Dana White then told FOX Sports that the fight was, “Not happening.”

MMASucka.com spoke with Melendez’s training partner Jake Shields and he said the bout was never signed, but “El Nino” would like to fight Nurmagomedov next.
