Now, for those of us over the legal drinking age, alcoholic beverages are often a necessary accoutrement when watching a UFC pay-per-view event. However, with such a wide range of beers, wines, and spirits available, it can sometimes be difficult to choose something that may really fit the event. That can leave you relying on the “same old same old,” or – even worse – cheap, bad beer. We here at MMASucka don’t want to see that happen to you, though. That’s why we’re bringing you a brand new, PPV-week series to help ensure that you have quality drinks for watching (hopefully) quality fights, inspired by a fighter on the card.

It’s a stacked card at UFC 181, and in honor of Sucka Radio guest and UFC Lightweight Title challenger Gilbert Melendez, we’re going to California for this edition of Fight Boozin’. While Gil may train in San Francisco, we’re drinking our way to Nor-Cal, to Chico, CA’s Sierra Nevada Brewing. One of the original west coast craft breweries, Sierra Nevada’s been in the game for over 30 years. While they have a range of beers both seasonal and regularly available, we’re going with their Torpedo Extra IPA. Named after their patented dry-hopping device, Torpedo is made with a mix of Magnum, Crystal, and Citra hops for a bright, citrus-pine bite. The Two-Row Pale and Caramel malts even eachother out to create a deep, burnt amber color in the beer, and add balance to the hoppiness inherent in the IPA style. You should be able to find this at any decent liquor store, so hunt it down and enjoy this Saturday.
