I have mentioned a few times that there are a lot of great young and talented fighters that will be coming out of the amateur ranks in B.C. and making some noise in professional mixed martial arts. We are on the precipice of something special, and within the next year or two, British Columbia could become a fighter factory spitting out talent across many pro organizations.
I feel like a shopping channel salesman when I say this: now you can get the chance to see for yourself this Saturday night at the Vancouver Trade and Convention Center for Battlefield 18. In all seriousness, this upcoming amateur fight card is massive and features a few guys who could follow in the large footsteps of B.C.’s own Rory MacDonald.
Over the years, local and provincial governments have made it impossible for promoters like the Battlefield Fight League to put on professional fights in Vancouver. Obviously, that is going to change in 2013, but the silver lining here is it has forced a lot of young fighters to spend a lot more time in the amateur ranks. That’s not a bad thing because more and more kids are jumping to the pros way too early in their careers and finding out the hard way they were not ready.
If you are a fight fan, grab your buddies and get a BFL ticket for this Saturday night. Some names, and there are many on this card, to keep an eye on are Kirk Tse, Eli Wyse, Nick Marinos, Achilles Estremadura, and Oliver Vajda to name just a few.
Kennedy, one of many West Coast BJJ/MMA standouts, feels it’s his time to finally show that he is the real deal and one of B.C.’s top blue-chip prospects.
Any time two opponents face each other there is always speculation as to who will have the advantage where, as well as who will be better in implementing the advantages in the fight, Kennedy told MMASucka.com. The only way to actually figure it out is to get in there and fight. Then we can see which opinions were valid. I feel like I can exploit Stu almost anywhere if I’m on my game: wrestling, BJJ, but especially stand-up.
