Road To The Pros: Micah Brakefield #6

|

It’s been a pretty slow two weeks for me. I’ve been training a fair amount but have been concentrating more on getting some bills paid before I get back to the grind and head into the next training camp.

It looks like I’m going to be fighting again in November and apparently against Jer Kornelson… again. It’s not that I don’t think he’s worthy of a title shot, or that I’m scared to fight him. I just don’t think it makes a ton of sense for me to fight him again as an amateur, but if that’s what I am asked to do and there’s no one else for me to fight, I will do it. I will be taking this fight more seriously than any other fight. Jer’s biggest strength is his strength and conditioning and I will make sure I enter the cage in the best shape of my life. I think if I do that then my chances of winning in a dominant fashion are high. I won’t go in cocky and leave myself open for one of his monster right hands, but by mid November I hope to build off my last win and be a standup machine.

That being said I have been more into jits than ever before. I am growing to really love the sport and plan to compete in gi and no gi quite seriously over the next few years.  The fluid movements and the ability to not only neutralize someone’s strengths but use it against them with leverage really entices me and I really look forward to getting better. Don Whitefield is an incredible teacher and every chance I get to absorb some of his knowledge about the sport I will.

Well it’s been one year since I started MMA and I couldn’t be happier with how it’s going. I have been fortunate enough to get sponsored by some cool companies like: Tapout Canada, Dominant Ground, Reflex on Kingsway, Klench Kustom Guards, Fine Arts Bartending in Victoria. And of course the company that first put their name on my back Passion Sports. I would also like to thank MMASucka for giving me the opportunity to write for their page (sorry I’m not always on time with my blog) It means a lot to me and I really like everyone I have met that is involved with the site.

If you have a second check out www.kombatnation.com and look at some great technic vids on everything from stand up, take downs and jits.

Thank you for reading.
