Rashed Evans just cannot seem to catch a break when it comes to getting a shot to regain the UFC Light Heavyweight Title.
With Evans still injured, Lyoto Machida (17-2 MMA, 9-2 UFC) steps in for Evans and will face UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones (14-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) in the headlining bout at UFC 140 which will take place in Toronto.
UFC President Dana White announced the news this morning via Twitter.
After a whirlwind 24 hours as various websites had claimed that Jones would be facing Evans with White having to vigorously deny the fight was happening due to Evans only getting the pins from his hand removed yesterday.
Jones coming is off a successful first title defense as he defeated Quinton Jackson at UFC 135 last month will be looking to defeat three former world champions in one year.
Machida hasn’t been in the cage since his KO of the year candidate as he defeated Randy Couture at UFC 129 will be looking to regain the title he lost last year to Shogun Rua at UFC 113.
