Its now official that MY BIGGEST FEAR has not come to fruition. Fedor “the Last Emperor” Emelianenko is NOT going to retire, yet. I wasn’t just satisfied with the initial fight announcement that was made in early September, but now that there is a solid date in November, a venue is booked and the first promo video is out, I can safely say that this is going to happen.
The once UFC heavyweight title contender Jeff Monson is a perfect test for Fedor. If Fedor should win, it would be a great first step back on to the road of making it back to a major MMA promotion (M-1 Global permitting of course) and regain his spot as the greatest heavyweight in the world. If he has a bad performance, and is smothered by the world class grappling of Monson, it might be time to call it quits.
The next question is weather or not to buy the pay-per-view. As huge of a Fedor jock rider as I am, I’m extremely reluctant to pay for an event that is either going to be prerecorded, or is going to make me wake up early on a Sunday morning. Moscow, Russia is 11 hours ahead of my Pacific Time Zone. That means if they get started at 7 PM Moscow time, I would have to be up by 8 AM. I’ll do that during the weekdays to get paid at a job, but not on a weekend for a pay-per-view event. A “delayed online streaming viewing” may be in the cards.
On the other hand, I don’t imagine that they will be charging $59.99 like the UFC for the event. It also may be the last time we see Fedor in action. So maybe…
Either way, I’m just happy all the die hard Fedor fans, myself included, still have a slim hope that he will be once again the greatest heavyweight in the world.
