Road to the Pro’s: Micah Brakefield #10

|

Well I successfully defended my Battlefield Fight League middleweight title. It was pretty quick, 40 seconds into the fight I was tightening up a triangle choke, and 1:10 in Jer Kornelsen tapped. It would appear a pretty successful outing. Unless you consider how many mistakes I was able to make in the first few seconds of the fight.  I have not watched it yet, but I know it was bad. I came out awkward and got hit right on the chin when throwing a kick. My gameplan was to stand for two rounds. Show that I had some hands. I knew Jer was going to come in to the fight in shape and looking to land a big overhand right. That’s exactly what he did. Highlighting the fact that without sparring or even really training my stand up, it remains non existent. In order for me to get to where I want to be I need to take the time to learn how to strike.

So what’s next? I don’t know. I think I am comfortable enough in the cage to go pro, I just need to see if I can dedicate myself to training and see if I can get as good at fighting as I am at finding a way to win.
