MFC Light Heavyweight Champ Ryan Jimmo Takes On Karlos Vemola at UFC on FX 1 (UPDATED)

|

Ryan Jimmo will be leaving his Canadian roots and MFC light heavyweight championship behind to make his UFC debut.

UFC officials announced the match-up early Tuesday

At light heavyweight, Ryan “Big Deal” Jimmo will look to extend his 16-fight win streak in his UFC debut against Czech powerhouse Karlos Vemola.

Jimmo (16-1) was one of the top light heavyweights to not be in the UFC. He began his career with a loss and since then has gone on an amazing 16 fight win streak (undefeated since 2007). With notable wins over Wilson Gouveia, Marvin Eastman, Zak Cummings, and Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

Vemola (8-2) will be a tough test for the UFC newcomer. Vemola is 1-1 since making the move from heavyweight to light heavyweight. With wins over Seth Petruzelli, but a decision loss to Ronny Markes at UFC on Versus 5 last August.

Look for Mark Pavelich to have a few words about the situation.

UFC on FX 1 will be held on Jan. 20 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The event will be the UFC’s first on the FX network and will be headlined by a lightweight clash between Jim Miller and Melvin Guillard.

UPDATE: Maximum Fighting Championship’s PR Head Scott Zerr  just released this quick comment: “Best of luck to Ryan. Hope he does well.”

UPDATE #2: From Mark Pavelich’s Twitter (@MaximumFighting):

“Way to go @RyanJimmo your the only one that did it right and played it straight I will always be in your corner. All the best #MFC
