Alcantara Edges Omigawa, Pushes Win Streak To 13

|

Yuri Alcantara faced one of his toughest test to date in former top-ranked featherweight Michihiro Omigawa and came through with flying colours – The bout opened with both men exchanging on the feet before the Japanese superstar was hurt with a knee and a spinning elbow before being taken to the ground.

The Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt desperately searched for an armbar which he had in deep but Omigawa was saved by the bell as the round ended before the submission was forced.

Alcantara proved his worth as a future player in the featherweight division muscling Omigawa to the floor and searching for submissions and damaging his face with vicious ground and pound to score a decision victory on all three judges’ score cards.

Here’s what the victor had  to say post-fight, Omigawa was unable to comment because he was being transported to a local hospital for further examination.

YURI ALCANTARA:

“This was like the World Cup for me tonight. To fight against a veteran like him was a true honor. I hope this win proved to the UFC that I’m ready for the main card. I felt like a complete fighter in there tonight.”
