Hector Lombard officially in the UFC and has his sight set on Anderson Silva

|

On Tuesday the former Bellator champion Hector Lombard announced that he had signed with the UFC. Today, UFC President Dana White made it official with this tweet.

Done deal!!!! Welcome to the UFC Hector

It didn’t take long for the former champ to call out the current UFC middleweight champion. “I want to be UFC middleweight champion and I want to fight Anderson Silva to do it. I have such respect for him as a fighter, it would be an honor and a dream come true to test my skills against his. I wouldn’t be in the UFC if I didn’t think I could win the UFC world title.” Lombard said “I’ve wanted to fight in the UFC all my career.”

The 34 year old Cuban fighter holds an impressive 32-2-1 record with his most recent loss coming to Gegard Mousasi back in 2006.

Visa issues kept Lombard from originally signing with the UFC back in 2007, but this time around he is here to stay. “I’m here in the UFC to prove I am the best in the world. I’m very proud of my heritage and I want to represent all Cubans around the world when I fight in the UFC, just like I did when I went to the Olympics in 2000.”

With Anderson Silva expected to take on Chael Sonnen at UFC 148 in Las Vegas, Lombard won’t get his wish of fighting Silva just yet. We saw what happened with Belfort following his first win in the UFC; could this be the same with Lombard. One win and a title shot is very possible.
