During today’s Strikeforce: Barnett vs. Cormier media conference call, Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker revealed three fights for the July 14 show.
The event will take place at the Rose Garden in Portland, Oregon and will feature a middleweight championship fight between champ Luke Rockhold and number one contender Tim Kennedy.
Kennedy (14-3) has not seen the inside of the cage since he defeated Robbie Lawler back in July of 2011. He was offered a fight with the champ Rockhold, however he had to pass on the title shot due to an elbow injury. He will now get that chance.
Rockhold (9-1) is on an 8 fight win streak and most recently defeated Keith Jardine in his first title defense. Most fans were surprised when Rockhold defeated Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza to win the middleweight title, however he was nothing but confident going into the bout.
The other two fights heading to Portland are Robbie Lawler vs. Lorenz Larkin and Roger Gracie vs. Keith Jardine.
The heavy hitter Lawler will look to win two in a row when he steps in the cage against Larkin. Lawler defeated Adlan Amagov by TKO back in January. Larkin (12-0-1) with his last fight ending in a no contest. He originally lost to King Mo Lawal, however due to Lawal’s positive drug test, the Nevada State Athletic Commission overturned the fight to a no contest.
Gracie looks to rebound from the first loss of his career against Jardine. While Jardine also looks to get back into the winning column.
