Ryan Martinez joins Bellator’s rapidly expanding heavyweight roster

CHICAGO, Ill. (June 8, 2012) — The Bellator Heavyweight roster continues to grow as the promotion announced today the signing of Ryan Martinez. The Infinite MMA product joins Bellator with a dominating 7-1 record, including an impressive victory over former two-time NCAA heavyweight champion Mark Ellis. Martinez will debut with Bellator on August 24 against a soon to be named opponent.

“The second I heard Bellator had interest in bringing me over, I thought the move was a no-brainer, so everything came together pretty quickly,” said Martinez. “Bellator without a doubt in my mind has the hungriest and most exciting fighters in this sport, and I want to be a part of that.”

Armed with a wrestling background and a sharp stand up game, Martinez brings a well-rounded arsenal to the Bellator cage. And while Martinez respects every fighter under the Bellator banner, he isn’t blinded by belts or big names.

“Cole Konrad has an unbelievable wrestling base and background, and Brett Rogers has made a name for himself in this sport, but all I see are guys that will be good names to put on my resume as wins. Nobody is as hungry as I am, and I’m ready to give it 120%.”
