Junior dos Santos: “Overeem needs to have another fight before having a title shot”

|

Following UFC 146, President Dana White mentioned to the media that Alistair Overeem should “regain his standing” as the number one contender in the UFC heavyweight division. He says this despite failing a pre-fight drug test and getting denied a license to fight until December.

UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos does not agree with White on this front.

Not only does dos Santos believe that the fighter should have to take another blood test, but he feels that “The Reem” should win at least one more fight before competing for the championship.

I would like him to do a test — a blood test. I think we both need to do that. I want a clean fight and he needs to prove he is not under any kind of substances. When you have a fight with two ‘clean’ fighters, you will know after the fight who is the real champion. A guy who uses doping is a fake fighter. I think he doesn’t deserve a title shot right now. … Overeem needs to have another fight before having a title shot. – via ESPN.com

The only thing that Junior dos Santos should be worrying about at this point however is beating Cain Velasquez and retaining his championship at UFC 152 in September.
