London, Ontario, Canada – July 15th, 2012. Fivestar Athletics is proud to announce it’s Inaugural Fivestar Fight League Event titled “Northern Lights Out” in Yellowknife, NT. We are excited to bring MMA back to Yellowknife after the success that Fivestar Fight League’s promoters Orest Zmyndak and Darrel Ouelette had with a King of the Cage event one year ago.
With a great card filled with local and close to home, Canadian talent we are looking to not only showcase our fight league, but the fighters as well. Fivestar’s Zmyndak explains why we chose Yellowknife as our inaugural event.
“We feel that Yellowknife is perfect for us for the first show and the Yellowknife Commission is very knowledgeable and co-operative and we will endeavour to help them out in training their own officials. When Ouelette approached businesses (in Yellowknife), they jumped on board, as you can see by the number of corporate logos on the poster. It would be impossible to put on a show in Yellowknife without the help of these businesses, as costs are very high. You need to fly in fighters, trainers, referees, judges, dressing room supervisors and our staff. Getting a cage up there is an adventure in itself.”
Orest Zmyndak – Operations Manager, Fivestar Fight League
Orest has years of experience in the industry as the Current Ratings Chairman for National Championships Committee of Canada as well as time spent as Chairman and Executive Director of the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission among many other illustrious titles in the business. Coupled with the rest of Fivestar Athletics and our many media markets, we are looking at a very successful event to kick start this part of our business. The event will be headlined by local undefeated Light Heavyweight Adam Macdonald (3-0) who also fought in the last event hosted in Yellowknife. A former RCMP officer in the Yellowknife, Adam has a great local following even after being transfered to Ottawa. He will face Jon Ganshorn (4-2) who has fought some of Canada’s top talent. In addition to MacDonald, there will be representation from other local fighters including Danny Doig (1-1), Tang Thongpheng (1-1), and a fight debut from Luke Huntus. The Arctic’s only Hip-Hop artist Aaron “Godson” Hernandez will be providing intermission entertainment. His new video will be released this month and he may be recognized from his appearance on CBC’s “Dragon’s Den”.
The full fight card can be seen on
www.fivestar-fightleague.com. There you will also find upcoming news from our next event that will be held in October in British Columbia and many more to come. Since this is an official Fivestar Athletics event, we will have all of our apparel available at the show as well as at Caged Fitness, the only MMA gym in town. We will be announcing more product releases soon, and the will be showcased at future events, our retailers as well as online at
“We have put countless hours into this first event, and I’m excited to see it all coming together. With this event, and all of the other announcements we have coming for this and all of our other projects, it is a great time at Fivestar Athletics.”
