Los Angeles, CA – K-1 is pleased to announce that one of the world’s greatest champions of kickboxing, Don “The Dragon” Wilson is heading over to the famed Muscle Beach this Thursday for the official K-1 Tryouts. Wilson tops off the already all-star cast of K-1 legends joining in the event, including the last man to ever hold the K-1 Grand Prix belt Alistair Overeem, Rick Roufus, Benny ‘The Jet” Urquidez, Mighty Mo, Dewey Cooper and Masato who are already scheduled for this Thursday’s event.
K-1 also made official today that Vinnie Shoreman and Nicky Whelan will work as announcers and commentators for the K-1 Open Tryouts. Shoreman is known and loved by kickboxing fans for his passion and enthusiasm for the sport, and his trademark voice announcing matchups from inside the ring. Whelan is an Australian actress and model and respected sports announcer, having worked as a live commentator and analyst for many professional combat sports events around the world. Shoreman and Whelan are both huge fans of K-1 and are honored and excited to help make the experience for the over 200 Hopefuls trying out this Thursday.
“With Don Wilson, Vinnie Shoreman and Nicky Whelan joining us at the Open Tryouts this Thursday, this event is becoming a sneak preview of what American fight fans will see in September,” said Doug Kaplan, CEO, K-1. “We are pleased to have Don, Vinnie and Nicky join us and all the other superstars coming to Muscle Beach. The more than 200 Hopefuls are going to have a fun, exciting day where they get to interact with the who’s who of kickboxing.”
Each of the Hopefuls are vying for a slot as a MAX or Heavyweight participant in one of the 2012 K-1 events, and the chance to compete for $2 million in prize money.
With over 220 Hopefuls registered, K-1 has established the registration deadline as Thursday at 11:00 a.m. PT. With only TWO days left until the tryouts, Hopefuls should confirm their participation by pre-registering through the K-1 FACEBOOK page at:http://www.facebook.com/K1GlobalTV.ENG. This event is FREE and OPEN to the public.
