Miesha Tate and Julie Kedzie pull off fight of the year performance

|

With all the attention turned towards Ronda Rousey and Sarah Kaufman’s battle tonight at Strikeforce: Rousey vs. Kaufman, Miesha Tate vs. Julie Kedzie has drawn little attention. Such little attention that the organization even put the former champ on the preliminary card.

Even though the fight was on the prelims, this fight has already been dubbed as a “Fight of the Year” candidate.

Kedzie started the fight strong, landing some serious punches and kicks. She stuffed a number of Tate’s takedowns and near the end of the first even dropped Tate with a left kick. Tate immediately threw up a triangle, but Kedzie was saved by the bell.

The second round started the same, however Tate finished the round strong – having Kedzie’s back for part of the round. Kedzie landed an awesome head-kick right to the chops of Tate early in the third, but again Tate threw up a submission. She first went for a triangle, but eventually finished the fight with a nicely set-up armbar.

This victory puts “Cupcake” back into the win column, and possibly sets her up for a title shot.
