Alan Belcher Unable To Compete At UFC 153 Due To Spinal Fracture

|

In the hours since the announcement that Vitor Belfort had been pulled from his UFC 153 bout against Alan Belcher to compete against Jon Jones in the UFC 152, speculation rose as to who might replace Belfort on the Oct. 13 fight card.

Wanderlei Silva came up as a potential opponent for Belcher, but nothing materialized. It appears finding an opponent for “The Talent” is no longer neccesary as the 28-year-old announced on Twitter that he is injured and unable to compete at the event scheduled to take place in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.

“Everyone’s asking if I am mad at @Ufc @jonnybones @vitorbelfort answer is no.” Belcher wrote. “This is a blessing in disguise. I have a spinal fracture.”

Belcher did not disclose how the injury occured or exactly how long he will be on sidelines, but did say he is aiming for a November return to the cage and would like to face fellow top contender Chris Weidman.

“With that being said and with much respect I’d like @Chrisweidmanufc or another top 5 on my return in November. Thx for all the support”
