Alan Belcher announced via twitter that his opponent, Vitor Belfort being moved to main event status at UFC 152 was a “blessing in disguise.”
Belcher stated that he has suffered a spinal fracture so he has been forced to withdraw from the UFC 153 fight card.
UFC officials announced that instead of finding Belcher an opponent, Phil Davis and Wagner Prado would instead move from UFC on FX 5 to the UFC 153 card.
Davis and Prado first squared off at the UFC on FOX 4 card. The bout was declared a no-contest, as Prado was unable to continue after an accidental eye-poke from Davis.
Davis (9-1) was undefeated until he suffered his first loss at the hands of former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 2. He was on a five fight win streak prior to Evans, with key victories over Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
Prado (7-0) will look to stay undefeated with a victory over Davis. The Team Nogueira will look to win his second fight inside the octagon at UFC 153.
