After spectacular performances in front of their home crowd at the recently held ONE FC 5: Pride of a Nation event in Manilla, Philippines, ONE Fighting Championship announced that Eduard Folayang, Eric Kelly and Honorio Banario will all be involved in championships match-ups at the company’s upcoming ONE FC 6: Rise of Kings event, which is set to go down on October 6th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium .
Eduard Folayang, one of the ‘poster-boys’ for Filipino MMA, was awarded a Lightweight title shot following a hard-fought decision victory over Felipe Enomoto.
“He’s one of the best fighters today, one of the best fighters in Asia,” said Victor Cui, the Founder & CEO of ONE Fighting Championship. “And I want to reward him. I’m going to put him up for a ONE FC championship belt on October 6th.”
An opponent, however, was not named for the 27-year-old. He is now 2-1 in his stint with the Singapore-based promotion, after dropping a controversial decision to Ole Laursen at ONE FC 3: War of the Lions.
Eric Kelly will fight for the inaugural Featherweight title after gaining a TKO win over former UFC Lightweight Champion, Jens Pulver. Kelly, who is still undefeated in his professional MMA career, was informed by Jason Chambers in his post-fight interview, that he will be fighting Team Lakay’s Honorio Banario for the 145-lbs strap when the organization heads to the Singapore Indoor Stadium on October 6th.
“I trained hard for the fight. Jens Pulver is a legend and a knockout artist, so I did my best to train,” said Kelly. “When I saw he was a little hurt from the punches, I threw a kick and he went down. I wanted to choke him out, but the referee stopped us.”
Banario, in the meantime, earned his title shot when he stopped Andrew Benibe earlier on in the evening.
