Luke Rockhold to defend title against Lorenz Larkin, not Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza

|

It was reported this morning that Luke Rockhold (10-1) would defend his title at Strikeforce’s November 13 card in Oklahoma City. When the announcement came, most logical folks believed that he would be defending the strap against former champ, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza. However, that is not the case, he will face the undefeated Lorenz Larkin (13-0) in the co-main event.

Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir will take place at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City. The main card will air on Showtime, with the prelims heading to Showtime Extreme.

Rockhold has won 9 fights in a row and defended his title twice. He fought last in July, when he defeated Tim Kennedy by unanimous decision to hold on to his strap. Following that fight, the champ made it clear that he would like to fight Jacare next, unfortunately that fight will have to wait.

Larkin is undefeated in his professional MMA career, well sort of. He lost by second round TKO to Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal back in January, but to everyones surprise, Lawal tested positive for a banned steroid and the fight was overturned and ruled a no-contest. He then moved down to the middleweight division and defeated Robbie Lawler in his first appearance. Maybe his second appearance will grant him gold.

Strikeforce: Cormier vs. Mir will be headlined by Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix winner Daniel Cormier and former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir. Mir will make a one-fight appearance under the Strikeforce banner.
