Two of the most exciting lightweights on the UFC roster are set to clash as Melvin ‘The Young Assassin’ Guillard and Jamie ‘The Worm’ Varner have verbally agreed to fight at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale, schedule for Dec. 15 in Las Vegas.
UFC officials announced the bout Thursday evening.
Guillard (30-11-2, 1 NC) is coming off a 76-second knockout loss to Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 150 in August. It was the first time in Guillard’s career that he had been knocked out, and after losing three of his last four fights, ‘The Young Assassin’ badly needs a victory to get back on track.
Varner (20-7-1, 2 NC) last competed at UFC on FOX 4 in August where he lost to Joe Lauzon via third-round submission in a ‘Fight of the Year’ candidate. After a brief stint fighting outside of ZUFFA, ‘The Worm’ is 1-1 since returning to the UFC this past May.
The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale features a heavyweight main event between ‘TUF 16’ coaches Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson and Shane Carwin.
The card airs live on FX in the United States and Rogers Sportsnet in Canada.
