Zuffa releases statement on Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman

|

On November 2, 2012 it was reported that Stephan Bonnar and Dave “Pee Wee” Herman had failed their UFC 153 post-fight drug tests. Bonnar failed due to testing positive for Drostanolone, an anabolic steroid. While, Herman tested positive for marijuana metabolites.

Both Bonnar and Herman have failed drug tests previously.

UFC.com has released the following statement on the situation.

“Stephan Bonnar and Dave Herman tested positive for banned substances following their bouts at UFC 153. The UFC has a strict, consistent policy against the use of any illegal and/or performance-enhancing drugs, stimulants or masking agents. Both fighters have admitted taking the banned substances and have orally agreed to suspensions. Once the suspensions have been reduced to written agreements, the results of their tests and the agreed upon suspensions will be sent to the Association of Boxing Commissions official record-keeper so other jurisdictions will be on notice.”

Due to the fact that UFC 153 was held in Brazil and the country does not have an athletic commission, the UFC took the drug testing into their own hands.

UFC President Dana White announced the retirement of Bonnar last week, so the positive test doesn’t mean much to him.

Herman on the other hand was more than likely going to be released from the organization following three consecutive losses at the hands of  Stefan Struve, Roy Nelson and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.
