UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit – 3 Stars

|

UFC 154 went down this past weekend from the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Local fans were treated to a night of great fights, especially the main event which featured the return of Montreal’s own Georges St-Pierre.

St-Pierre was out of action for over 18-months and in his return absolutely dominated Carlos Condit en route to unifying the UFC Welterweight Championships.

Check out MMASucka.com’s 3 stars for the UFC 154 event below.

1. Georges St-Pierre

After nearly 19-months, St-Pierre returned to action and showed little to no ring rust. He picked up a Unanimous Decision (49-46,50-45,50-45) against a very game Condit in the main event at UFC 154. Throughout the fight he showed why he is so dominating; with great jabs, take-downs at will and tremendous heart. At one point Condit connected with a high-kick that dropped GSP in the third round. He told the media at the post-fight press conference that in that moment, the Matt Serra loss played in his head and got him through the haziness. The champ is back.

2. Johny Hendricks

Two out of Hendricks’ last three bouts have ended by knockout in under one minute. On Saturday night he won his fifth straight fight against Martin Kampmann and took home ‘Knockout of the Night’ honors as well. The collegiate wrestler has his sights set on the UFC Welterweight Champion.

3. Carlos Condit

Even though Condit came up on the losing end Saturday night, he showed he had the heart to take a beating and still push through five rounds of action. As mentioned above, his glory moment happened in the third round when he landed a nasty high-kick which could have easily ended the fight. St-Pierre said Condit is an amazing martial artist and gave him his toughest fight.

Pablo Garza (def. Mark Hominick), Tom Lawlor (lost to Francis Carmont), John Makdessi (def. Sam Stout)
