Alessio Sakara unable to fight Patrick Cote at UFC 158 due to kidney issues

|

At UFC 154, Alessio Sakara was disqualified in his bout against Patrick Cote due to illegal strikes to the back of the head. It was just announced that the two would re-match at UFC 158 in Cote’s hometown of Montreal on March 16.

Unfortunately, that fight will not go down. Sakara was forced to withdraw from the fight and actually “stop everything” for the next three months due to a problem with his kidneys.

Fighters Only has the scoop about Sakara’s medical issue.

“I’ve seen spreading news about the rematch with Cote. I wanted this fight so badly, even if Montreal isn’t the right city for the rematch to happen. However, that does not matter now. The fact is, I cannot fight because of my kidneys. Three days ago I got some test results and the doctor (Nephrologist; kidney specialist) has ordered that I stop everything for three months because of the renal (kidney) stress. Right now my manager is getting the date moved [for the rematch]. I’ll be more motivated with the nutritionist to never again risk my health any more.”

This leaves Cote without an opponent for his UFC 158 fight and the UFC has not given word as to whether they will look for a replacement for Sakara.

MMASucka.com will have news on the UFC 158 fight card as it goes down.
