I spoke to the uber-popular Australian female fighter Bec Hyatt several weeks ago when she was preparing to go toe-to-toe with feared striker Joanne Calderwood and she spoke of the giant opportunity that laid ahead of her and how she would never turn down a fight, turns out she wasn’t lying.
Claudia Gadelha was forced off the featured fight for the inaugural Invicta Fighting Championships strawweight title against Carla Esparza due to injury and Hyatt was quick to raise her hand to step up to the plate and vye for the title.
“I woke up at 5AM with an E-Mail from Invicta saying opponent change and my stomach sunk,” Bec says “I was like ‘not again’ but as we opened it, it said ‘would you fight Carla Esparza for the title’ because it turns out Claudia [Gadelha] has broken her nose in five different places and they were frantically looking for a replacement for Carla [Esparza] and had offered the fight to a few girls, including my old opponent Joanne [Calderwood] and everyone turned it down but I’m not one to turn down fights and this is a big opportunity so I can’t wait to get in there and mix it up with Carla, it’s going to be fun”
The once beaten Hyatt is riding a four-fight winning streak in her home land and makes a giant leap up in competition to fight a world-renowned female with literally nothing to lose and everything to gain on January 5.
