Earlier this week it was announced that Luke Rockhold would make his UFC debut against Vitor Belfort at an unnamed event in Brazil. Well, that event is now named and will take place on May 18.
Tatame confirmed that UFC on FX 8 would take place at Arena Jaragua in Santa Catarina, Brazil on May 18.
Belfort (22-10) is coming off a giant win against Michael Bisping in the main event of UFC on FX 7 earlier this year. Following the victory, Belfort called out UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones. It looks as if “The Phenom” will remain at 185 pounds for now though.
Following the event, the UFC announced that Belfort was allowed testosterone replacement therapy. Many believed that he would fail his post-fight drug test, however those rumors fell false when it was revealed that he past.
Rockhold (10-1) has been sidelined due to injury since last July when he won a unanimous decision over Tim Kennedy to retain his Strikeforce middleweight belt. Rockhold called out Belfort in the past few weeks and it looks like his wish has been granted.
The bout between Belfort and Rockhold will more than likely be for number one contender status.
