Rory MacDonald (14-1) went down with a supposed neck injury and had to pull out of his UFC 158 bout with Carlos Condit (28-6). There was no replacement announced…until now.
MMAJunkie.com first reported the UFC 158 shuffle, as they spoke with Dana White late Monday evening.
“Once we knew Rory had to withdraw, we started looking for potential replacements. Johny Hendricks called me and said he wanted that fight, so we’re going to give it to him a shot at Carlos.”
Johny Hendricks (14-1), who was part of the UFC 158 welterweight tournament, was scheduled to face Jake Ellenberger but now has been moved up to fight “The Natural Born Killer.” There is no replacement fighter announced yet for Ellenberger (28-6) but the night is still young.
White also stated that their first choice to replace MacDonald was Strikeforce fighter Tarec Saffiedine, however he turned the co-main event fight down.
Tyron Woodley (11-1) has continued to send out tweets to UFC brass and Dana White about stepping up to fill in the blank at UFC 158 which takes place on March 16, 2013, from the Bell Center in Montreal Quebec.
