Nate Marquardt set to take on Jake Ellenberger at UFC 158

|

An injury to Rory MacDonald has caused a shuffle in the UFC 158 fight card. It was announced Monday that MacDonald was forced to withdraw from his co-main event fight against Carlos Condit due to a training injury. With MacDonald out, the UFC moved Johny Hendricks from his bout against Jake Ellenberger up to fight against Condit.

There were plenty of fighters vying for a crack at Ellenberger via Twitter. Stepping in for Hendricks will be former Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nate Marquardt.

Marquardt (32-11) is coming off a five-round loss where he lost his Strikeforce gold to Tarec Saffiedine at the final Strikeforce card this past month. He will look to regain steam and climb the rankings in the UFC’s already stacked welterweight division.

Ellenberger (28-6) last fought in October when he won a unanimous decision against Jay Hieron at UFC on FX 5. Prior to that fight “The Juggernaut” was inching ever so close to a welterweight title fight, that was until Martin Kampmann snapped his six fight winning streak at the TUF 15 Finale this past June.

UFC 158 will go down Saturday March 16, 2013 from the Bell Center in Montreal Quebec. George St-Pierre is set to defend his welterweight title against Nick Diaz.
