16 fighters released from the UFC, including Jon Fitch

|

On Tuesday 16 fighters were released from the UFC, including former welterweight number one contender Jon Fitch.

MMAFighting.com brought the news about the fighters who were released.

The other fighters released are Wagner Prado, Mike Russow, Jacob Volkmann, Vladimir Matyushenko, Che Mills, Jay Hieron, Terry Etim, Paul Sass, Jorge Santiago, Mike Stumpf, Simeon Thoresen, C.J. Keith, Motonobu Tezuka, Josh Grispi and Ulysses Gomez.

Many of the above mentioned fighters had lost two or more fights in a row. However, there were a few surprises.

Fitch (24-5-1 1NC) has been one of the welterweight divisions top fighters over the past few years. He was 1-2 in his last three fights with a very poor performance against Demian Maia at UFC 156.

Mills (15-5 1NC) is also 1-2 in his last three fights, with losses to Rory MacDonald and most recently to Matt Riddle at UFC on FUEL TV 7.

Volkmann (15-4) was inching up the rankings in the lightweight division with a five fight winning streak. Unfortunately in his last three fights he has gone 1-2, with losses against Paul Sass and Bobby Green at UFC 156 earlier this month.

Santiago (25-11) lost a unanimous decision to Gunnar Nelson at UFC on FUEL TV 7 earlier this month. Surprisingly, Santiago is 2-1 in his last three fights and is being let go after just one loss since his return to the organization.
