Micah Brakefield squares off with Leo Xavier for BFL middleweight title in June

|

“Mitey” Micah Brakefield will step inside the Battlefield Fight League cage for his third professional bout against Leo Xavier who will be making his professional debut for the BFL Middleweight title at BFL 24 this June.

Brakefield held the BFL Amateur Middleweight title before turning pro and Xavier was the BFL Amateur Welterweight Champion.

Brakefield (2-0) has won his first two professional fights. Most recently “Mitey” defeated Darwin Douglas by armbar at BFL 21 in February.

MMASucka.com spoke with Brakefield about his thoughts on taking on the always dangerous Xavier for the title.

“It’s a tough match up for me, he is a black belt in jiu-jitsu and 6 out of my 7 finishes were by submission. Not to say I don’t think I can submit him – it’s MMA not jiu-jitsu, but it will be my biggest challenge to date. I truly believe if you lock me in a cage with anyone I can find a way to win. And I’m willing to take the chance.”

Brakefield’s manager Darcy McBride of Echelon Fighter Management had this to say.

‘We were offered a few different names for this title fight. We were open to any names as Micah has shown his ability to win inside the cage. We’re confident that Leo will be a tough test, and even more confident that Micah leaves Penticton with the BFL Pro Middleweight Belt and his $10,000 bonus in his back pocket on June 8th”

Xavier (0-0) will have to prove himself in his first professional bout, as Brakefield has the experience. Even though he is 0-0 as a professional, Xavier comes into the bout as a 5-1 amateur.

The middleweight title fight will go down on June 8th in Penticton, British Columbia at BFL 24.
