TUF 17 report: Episode 10

|

We begin with a look back with Kelvin Gastelum winning his bout and UFC women’s bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey promising to make an appearance on the show. The quarter-finals begin tonight – Collin Hart facing Gastelum and Dylan Andrews meeting Luke Barnatt.

Bubba McDaniel is frustrated that he meets Urijah Hall, that devastating knockout stuck in his memory bank.

Gastelum gets his surprise appearance from Rousey and delivering on her training session, and by training session I mean she threw them around like school children.

NSAC’s Keith Kizer is on hand for weigh-ins, both fighters making weight, Gastelum at 185, Hart at 186 pounds.

Kelvin Gastelum vs. Collin Hart

Round one:

Steve Mazzagatti is your third man in the Octagon as we begin, Hart charges with a sloppy flurry and ties up Gastelum momentarily. A firefight ensues, Gastelum dropping his Team Jones adversary and pouncing on him with punches to finish the fight.

Kelvin Gastelum by first round TKO

Barnatt versus Andrews is your next fight, the first pick of the series (Barnatt) against the last selection (Andrews).

Mike Tyson shows up for fight day, going to be sitting alongside UFC President Dana White for the upcoming fight.

Dylan Andrews vs. Luke Barnatt

Round one:

Andrews gets in close, lands a shot and thrusts Barnatt to the floor. The unbeaten Brit scores with elbows from the bottom in guard, uses the cage to get back to the feet but Andrews drags him back down. In side control, the Aussie attempts to pass to half-guard but Barnatt has an active bottom game, constantly looking for a submission. Barnatt forces Andrews off but the Aussie joins him back on the canvas shortly. Andrews is forced to stand, as Barnatt attempts to get up he hooks his neck and rolls backwards to the mat and almost into a guillotine-choke. On the back of Barnatt with a single hook in against the fence, Andrews drags him to the floor. Barnatt connects with a flying knee, Andrews catching a second knee and taking the fight to the mat. Andrews stuns Barnatt. The Brit again hitting with the elbows from bottom, Andrews peppering with punches in full-guard as the round expires, 10-9 Barnatt.

Round two:

Barnatt throws out his jab, Andrews answering with a right-hook. The Aussie pushes him against the fence. The Brit hits with punches and knees but Andrews applies continual pressure. Barnatt turns the tables, hits a knee and drags Andrews to the floor. Andrews tries to get back up, winds up turning the tables and taking top position in full-guard. Barnatt attempts a omoplata, forces Andrews to stand up. Chael Sonnen pleads with Barnatt to stand up but he is comfortable to stay on the floor, despite being in a disadvantageous position. Back on the feet, Andrews pushes him right against the cage, Barnatt dropping down and looking for a triangle to no avail. Andrews eats an elbow, with a minute on the clock is happy to sit in top position and land occasional shots but is being warned by referee Herb Dean for action. Andrews stands up then pounces down on the floor, taking the back of Barnatt and attempting a choke but there was no chance of it happening, 10-9 Andrews.

The judges have declared it a draw after two rounds so we’re heading to a third deciding round, I am guessing they gave the first to Barnatt.

Round three:

Andrews wastes no time looking to push him against the fence but Barnatt breaks free. Andrews hits with a few shots, nails the Aussie with a knee in the clinch. Taking the back of Andrews against the fence, Barnatt breaks free. The Brit throws a flying knee, hits an elbow. The Aussie has Barnatt cornered and unloads with punches, sending him crashing to the floor to collect the victory as Dean calls off the fight.
